Simple Festive Look

So I thought we'd kick off with a pretty simple festive-ish look...

What you need for this look:
  • A base - I used too faced eyeshadow insurance, but just putting foundation on can be enough, something to cover the eyelid
  • Kohl eyeliner (I used Benefit Bad Gal as it's quite smudgy)
  • A red eyeshadow (I used the pro 120 palette - from ebay it was roughly a tenner bought almost 2 years ago and still loads of colour left!)
  • A black eyeshadow - preferably Matte - so not a shimmery one (again mine from the pro palette)
  • A white pencil or shadow - I used the NYC Milk and then sealed with a matte white powder also from MYC
  • Liquid liner (Rimmel Dream Eyes used)
  •  Mascara (Rimmel Lash Express used)
Step One:
Cover your eyelid in your base, including under the eye - this also helps combat dark circles, press down your base rather than rubbing in - this helps to eliminate puffiness and keeps your eyes fresh :) Then for this look I wanted it to be dark and smoky so I covered my entire lid with benefit Bad Gal and just smudged upto my crease so my entire lid was black at this point.

Step Two:
Using a fluffy brush put red eyeshadow from your inner corner to about half way along your eye. You want to keep it low though, so don't go up to the crease. Then just blend it out so its softer - although you want it bright.

Step Three:
Using an angle brush if you have one use your black powder to cut your crease. This means start right on your lash line and then work up to your crease - blend it right round your crease and then blend down over the red - as you're blending further in your eye the black should be lessening so it will be more of a grey tone closer to the inside of your eye.

At this stage you need to think about the shape you want to achieve, so mine isn't winged or very far out, but if you want that you need to start pulling out. When I start with the black I line it up from my bottom waterline and pull it up towards my brow, normally stopping at my crease - but then blending just beyond.

Step four:
Now using your Milk or white powder you want to kiss your tear duct area. Just gently using anything - finger, brush, cotton bud, press it all around the inside corner - you want that bit to be BRIGHT so press plenty on, then just blend out in the red and up into the grey. Take this underneath aswell just for like 1cm or something - just to brighten to the eye.

Step five:
I then using the brush I'd done the top black - go under my eye - don't get any new colour - your brush will have enough on to create a smudgy smoky greyish colour underneath and blend with the white.

Step six:
I then used liquid liner on the top of my eye. Starting at the inner corner and going out just gently pull the liquid liner across - TIP: you could do this looking downwards in a mirror. OR if you're nervous / don't have stable hands, dot your eyeliner along your lash line and then join the dots up. This is just for a straight(ish) line to define your eye - it's not feline style flicks or anything. Then add Kohl to your waterline (I do up and down!) and if you like seal it using your brush and black powder.

Step seven:
Check your look, open and close your eyes - check all your shadow is blended and then add lots of lashing of mascara: I use at least 2 coats, letting one dry before doing the other. TIP: make sure you put mascara on TOP of your lashes - as in pulling them down, then do it the normal way - this just means all your lashes are covered in colour :)

I wore this look with a red/see through lipgloss, powder to seal my make up and a tiny bit of bronze just to shape the face a little.

Hope this made sense, any questions of comments please ask!
